Abstract

This study proposes a novel reduced switch 11-level inverter (RS-11-I) design for a single stage, grid-connected, solar battery-based microgrid system. To achieve excellent microgrid performance, a reduced boost converter requirement and reduced phase-locked loop (PLL) control are proposed for single-stage operation. In addition to that, a battery energy storage device is integrated to improve the reliability of power flow. Moreover, a novel PLL-less improved instantaneous power theory-based control approach is suggested for inverter pulse generation and maximum power extraction. The inherent characteristics of voltage sourcebased shunt active filters are used to reduce the total harmonic distortions of the system during non-linear load conditions. To guarantee the significance of the proposed technique, the MATLAB-developed system is tested during steady-state and transient-state conditions. This study is a basis for the recent power market, where renewable power can meet the power demand and maximize its profit by distributing the power to the grid. 2024 Scrivener Publishing LLC.
