Abstract
A study was conducted to investigate the making and breaking of Sn-C and In-C bonds in situ in allyltins and allylindiums. The study considered the efforts of organic and organometallic chemists in employing ex situ and in situ strategies to demonstrate the making and breaking of Sn-C and In-C bonds in allyltins and allylindiums. It also considered newer developments in the direct activation of allyl electrophiles without Tm-assistance and transmetallative activation of other allyl-Mgms to allyltin and indium. The investigations were divided into sections, such as in situ generation and reactivity of allyltin and in situ generation and reactivity of allylindium. It was demonstrated that allyl halides and surrogates, allenes, and dienes were easily activated across a low-valent electron rich transition metal center, resulting in an ?-allylmetal.
