The hydrophobic coating was applied on a Magnesium alloy substrate by a stearic acid coating, which is less harmful to the environment. The coating was done at a fixed temperature of 90C for one hour, two hours, and three hours, respectively. The hydrophobicity was studied by contact angle test. The maximum attained contact angle was 121. The response parameter micro-hardness is measured at different coating times. Significant growth in micro-hardness has been observed in the coated sample, particularly with a maximum increase of approximately 35% compared to the bare sample, specifically for the sample coated for three hours. The appearances, surface morphology, and composition were analyzed by surface roughness, SEM, XRD, and EDX. The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.en_US
