Abstract

Battery storage plays a key role in maintaining balance of electrical energy between source and loads. Lithium-ion based battery technology is being preferred in the present day due to its higher energy density and smaller size. In general, battery applications require many individual cells to be connected in series-parallel combination to realize a complete storage system. In this work, the impact of connecting cells having dissimilar state-of-charge (SOC) in a multi-cell configuration is presented using simulation-based analysis. Different combination of multi-cell configurations have been simulated to investigate impact of dissimilar batteries. The purpose of the study is to explore the risks associated with replacement of individual cells in a multi-cell configuration e.g. battery swap stations. 2021 IEEE.
