Abstract
Reflection and diffraction effects have been investigated for corrugated cylinders. A periodic source with 1000 Hz frequency has been taken as acoustics source. Investigations were done for smooth circular cylinder as well as cylinder with wavy surface. Results were calculated to show effects of waviness on the diffraction of the sound field. A sixth order symmetric compact scheme has been used for spatial discretization and five stage optimized Runge-Kutta method has been used for time integration. Results show a large shadow region in case of smooth circular cylinder compared to cylinder with waviness. Sound intensity in the shadow region depends on the amount of waviness present on the cylinder surface. Acoustic intensity increases with the amount of waviness. 2017 Institute of Noise Control Engineering. All rights reserved.
