In present study, direct numerical computations are conducted for flow over two-dimensional elliptic cylinders at Reynolds number Re = 150 using high resolution Dispersion Relation Preserving (DRP) scheme. These direct simulations are performed at an angle of attack AOA = 4 o to accurately obtain both flow features as well as acoustic field generated due to the process of vortex shedding. Computations are conducted on a curvilinear structured grid generated using elliptic grid generation method. Flow parameters such as coefficients of lift, drag and pressure are evaluated and compared for all the elliptic cylinders. Characteristics of an acoustic pressure field are accurately resolved for large distances using mean pressure field and instantaneous pressure field. Dipolar nature of an acoustic field is observed for all the elliptic cylinders and the intensity of acoustic field is highest for the case of cylinder with axis ratio 1.0. To solve these problems, newly developed DRP scheme has been adopted for spatial discretization and an optimized five stage Runge-kutta (ORK5) scheme is implemented for time integration. 25th International Congress on Sound and Vibration 2018, ICSV 2018: Hiroshima Calling.
