Influence of crumb rubber concrete on the seismic performance of a frame structure based on stiffness and fundamental period
    (2014) Sahoo P.K.; Shrivastava N.; Zhu Prof. H.
This paper presents influence of Crumb Rubber Concrete (CRC) on the stiffness and fundamental period of a building. A three storeyed residential building situated in the Eastern India was considered and its stiffness was calculated for both conventional concrete and CRC using the D Value method for four scenarios. With the stiffness values, the fundamental period of the building was computed using the Rayleigh method. It was seen that the lateral stiffness of individual floor reduced between 6.225% and 20% when CRC was used in place of conventional concrete. Also, the fundamental period of the building increased between 4.233 % and 11.803 %. Finally, the earthquake loads were computed using Indian Standards and the lateral deflections were checked against the permissible limits. The reduced stiffness and increased fundamental period resulting from the use of CRC were favourable conditions for improving the performance of the building under seismic loading.
